Paper 2 Rough Draft

Paper 2 Rough Draft

Q Directions for Group Workshop-Peer Review For paper #2, you will turn in your draft to your group for constructive criticism and review. Group members will comment on strengths and weaknesses in the essay, what works and what needs more detail, overall construction of the essay, and grammar and punctuation. See Hacker's A Writer's Reference, pages 20-28, for revision techniques. Also, only for the Group Peer Review, you will use Google Docs to give real-time access and comments to your paper draft. Below are step-by-step instructions for this assignment: 1. Create a separate Gmail email account. You absolutely need to create a Gmail account to participate in this assignment and connect to Google docs. (Your SMC email account will NOT link to Google docs). 2. Load your paper draft onto Google docs by Wednesday of Week Three. 3. Within our CANVAS learning management system, click on "Collaborations" on the left-side of our class's page. 4. Link your assigned Group members to your Google docs account through the Collaborations page by Wednesday of Week Three. This will give your classmates a few days to review and comment on your draft. 5. Send your professor an invitation to edit your document at smcdaghabegian@gmail.com. I will look at all drafts after your classmates have made their comments. This step takes some time for me, but my comments should appear on your draft through Google docs by Tuesday of Week Four. If you don't see my comments by then, send me your draft again via email. 6. Within Google docs, when you edit another person's draft, please use the proper editing tools that Google docs provides. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR CLASSMATES' ORIGINAL WORK. Make sure you click on the boxes on the tab at the top of the Google docs page to create comments and edits ON THE SIDE OF THE PAGE, not within the original document. Comments are due on others' drafts by Saturday of Week Three. 7. After your draft has been commented on by one or several of your group members, please save the version with comments and upload it to the Draft Submission box by the assignment's due date. Your draft with comments is due in the Dropbox by Saturday of Week Three. You will earn up to 40 points for this assignment, half for submitting your paper, and the other half for your constructive criticism of another's paper. Submit paper drafts to me with comments by Saturday of Week Three. The final version of Paper #2 is due by Friday of Week Four.

George Orwell’s essay “Shooting an Elephant” is an excellent literary piece that not only helps the readers to know more about the author’s personal experience in Burma but also showcased the lifestyles of the Burmese under the impact of British imperialism. The elephant in this essay is not just an animal as it has been wisely used as a metaphor here to point out the details of imperialism. Politics play an important role in this particular essay by George Orwell as it portrays colonial law that comes in sharp contrast with the conscience of the author.
